The way how the smartstick works is enough, the details you will do with your regular golf club. Yes, it does show if your plane is too flat or too steep. You line the laser up on the target line (the imaginary line that passes from the ball through the target) and no matter whether you have a flat plane like Hogan or a steep plane like Davis Love III, if you keep the laser on the target line throughout the swing, you will be on the correct plane for your posture. I have used a similar product, and it works quite well.
