I kind of had the same problem with my driver swing. What I had to do was put the ball really far forward in my stance…. lined up pretty much with my left foot. I opened up my stance about 2-3 inches wider than I thought I had to and then had my left food (I’m right handed) come back from the shot line about an inch or so.
As for the swing, the driver is longer and takes more inertia to get it going. Just keep control and power through your swing (even if it feels like you’re going through molasses) all the way to the follow-through.

I think this article is really good on helping your golf swing out. It really stresses form, and why.
I think I have also “quit my swing”. For me my old driver was too long and left me in a putrid setup position. During my downswing, I often stuttered because I was worried that the sole of my driver would clip the ground before the clubhead reached the ball. My driver was simply too long for my swing/body and my setup was totally skewed by it. That’s how I sometimes quit on the driver swing.
Consider getting a shorter driver or gripping down on the club. It hasn’t cost me any distance on average.
I think Charles Barkley’s swing might be example of what “quitting the swing” means. He stops halfway down. Perhaps you do it slightly without knowing it. I think I did.
he may mean that you are swinging “at” the ball and not through the ball - you also may be “letting up” on your swing because you’re afraid it may not go straight - I’ve become a really decent golfer over the last 2 years not only because of practice but because of a consistent pre shot routine and picking out specific targets that I am trying to hit to - if you visualize the shot you are are trying to hit, it’s amazing how well you body responds to the picture in your head - if you see all of the trouble out there (bunkers, o.b., trees, water) you create a negative picture in your head that you body responds to - pick out positive targets and accelerate through the ball not to the ball - hope that helps - good luck
I don’t know what quitting a swing is but a driver swing isn’t very much like an iron swing. It’s slower and more round if you know waht I mean. I suggest you get out on the range and feel it for yourself.
he means you are trying to hit the ball and so you slow down at the ball to hit it instead of swinging thru the ball to your finish
i odnt know but in my expierience you should not swing your driver like your irons. with the driver you tee the ball up higher and shouldnt make a divot. my swing is very strange but works, the swing naturally gets under the ball, but if i did that swing with my irons i would make a huge divot in the ground. just, go to the range and hit a bucket and find your right swing.
To me what your Dad is saying is you are not completing your swing. a lack of follow through. If you follow through all the way to completion of the swing…your driver shaft should hit you in the shoulder (It won’t hurt lol) Watch the Pro’s on TV….they all finish their swing nicely
